SDA Studios’ AcroDance curriculum is based on the Acrobatic Arts professional AcroDance program, which is comprised of safe and effective progressions with proven results in five divisions of AcroDance: Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Limbering and Tumbling. The Acrobatic Arts syllabus was developed with input from professionals and experts in ballet, modern dance, jazz, contortion, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, sport acrobatics, yoga, pilates, physiotherapy, hand balancing and more - making it a comprehensive, trusted, and well-rounded program. Both Miss Claire and Miss Mary are certified Acrobatic Arts instructors!
When making the decision for your dancer to enroll in SDA’s AcroDance program, it is important to understand that AcroDance and gymnastics are NOT the same. AcroDance movement is the fusion of the artistic motion of dance and the athleticism of acrobatics. AcroDancers must complete all their skills on the hard stage without the advantage of a sprung floor, while also integrating elements of dance movement & performance. The skills taught in AcroDance might look the same as gymnastics, but they are taught differently to compensate for the conditions. Neither way is “wrong”, they are just different techniques! Every Acro student is required to take ballet class. Ballet class gives students a basic understanding of the type of movement required for AcroDance.
